AIRWAYS ALLEGATIONS: The SOE Minister says papers from a former Airways lawyer could help to clarify accusations of insider trading made by Winston Peters in Parliament yesterday. The former lawyer for the SOE signed a confidentiality agreement with the SOE. The SOE has agreed to waive the confidentiality agreement.
NBR NAMES POLICEMAN: The editor in chief of the NBR says it is in the public interest to publish the name of the Police officer involved in the shooting incident in Waitara. The name is published in a front-page article.
SIERRA LEONE: Government troops and militia fighters have driven rebels away following a battle on the outskirts of Freetown.
ZIMBABWE: 100s of Zimbabweans have been inundating the High Commission in Zimbabwe asking for free air tickets.
TRANZRAIL INQUIRY: The Rail and Maritime Transport Union want the terms of reference for the rail inquiry to be as wide as possible. Tranzrail says it is looking forward to hearing from the government about the inquiry.
UK TRAIN INQUIRY: Prior to the Paddington Train smash Thames Trains had refused to spend money on a modest safety system that would have prevented the accident an inquiry has heard.
SRI LANKA: The Red-Cross is calling on the combatants in the north of Sri-Lanka to ensure the protection of civilians. The Tamil Tigers are claiming key victories which are being denied by the Sri Lankan army.
GAS LEAK: The Wellington City Council is investigating why it took so long to fix a gas leak in central Wellington yesterday. It took two hours yesterday to find the owner of the pipe.
DIRTY DIGGER: The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is sending an imported digger back to Japan because it is covered in dirt. Dr Frampton says it is a blatant infringement.
BILLIONTH INDIAN: India has welcomed its billionth citizen. Named faith the girl baby slept through a circus of publicity and cameras.
