WAITARA SHOOTING: From midnight tonight the name of the police officer who shot Steven Wallace at Waitara can be
revealed. A short time ago the race relations conciliator arrived in Waitara. Police believe the officer deserves
protection. The PM also doesn't want the officer named. But while National wants to pass an urgent new law the
government thinks that is going too far. Two High Court judges say they fail to see any reason why the shooting should
give rise to an issue of privacy. The government will decide later whether to hold an inquiry of its own into the
incident. Many questions remain unanswered in the case. TV3 will not be naming the officer involved in the immediate
future.
POLICE SHOOTING: A Police Complaints Authority report into the police shooting in the Waikato has found the officer
involved acted correctly.
SPYCATCHER: A Christchurch Lawyer has been awarded $20,000 compensation for an unreasonable search of his house. David
Small says the $20,000 is not a good award for the amount of time put in. Small caught an SIS agent burgling activist
Aziz Choudry's house. Later his house was searched. Small now says he wants an apology for what is a lot worse than an
"honest mistake".
SCOTT WATSON: The Court of Appeal has rejected a call for a new trial for Scott Watson for the murder of Ben Smart and
Olivia Hope.
AUSTRALIAN POLICE VICTIM: An Australian Police officer shot several times has an amazing survival tale to tell. The
female officer was hit eight times but not fatally. The officer went to a domestic incident and was confronted by a gun
fanatic. Her two colleagues were also shot in the incident. The offender who styles himself "Jesse James" is still on
the run.
LOVE BUG: No major problems reported today as office workers return to work. NZ has been relatively unaffected by the
problem. A security consultant says that relatively cheap prevention can stop this sort of attack. Meanwhile the search
for the originator of the attack continues. The Ministry of Education was the worst affected in NZ.
SIERRA LEONE: A NZ Peacekeeper is feared missing in Sierra Leone. The US and UK have sent naval ships to the area
preparing to evacuate nationals. 500 Peacekeepers are still thought to be being held hostage. Several UN personnel
carriers have been stolen.
HEALTHLINE: A free telephone health advice service was launched today. Wyatt Creech and Annette King launched the
service together. Labour has followed through with National's plan. The Medical Association fears misdiagnosis however.
