POLICE SHOOTING: The police are unable to say whether the policeman who shot a man in Waitara thought he as armed. Superintendent in charge says there are two investigations underway into the incident.
MT EDEN ESCAPEES: The police hunting two prison escapers are asking NZers in rural areas to familiarise them with pictures of the two men on the internet. See… www.aucklandcitypolice.govt.nz.
SHIP GROUNDS: The MV World Discoverer has grounded near Vanuatu all passengers have safely escaped the ship.
TOP SCHOOLS: A former PM has taken schools to task for not entering a schools competition. David Lange says more schools should enter the competition.
BEE MITES: Cabinet will today consider granting more money for the MAF bee mite control operation.
DEFENCE BLOWOUT: Claims that the Air Force needs a fortune for project Srius to upgrade the Air Force’s Orions so they can chase submarines.
FIJIAN PROTESTS: The Chaudry government in Fiji has been urged by the police chief to listen to protestors before the protests get out of control.
VIETNAM REMEMBERED: The US and Vietnam are celebrating the end of the Vietnam War. Gatherings have taken place in Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City and in the US.
PLUNKETLINE: Plunket’s parent help-line has been reinstated as a 24hour service. Plunket says the extended service will be welcomed by many parents.
EVENTING: Blyth Tait has won the three day event at Kentucky.
