PRISONERS ESCAPE: Auckland police are tonight hunting for two dangerous remand prisoners who scaled a razor wire fence
to escape from Mt Eden Prison today. Police and dogs spent the afternoon trying to catch the prisoners. Police say that
the public should ring 111 if they see the men. A big manhunt is underway in the suburb of Mt Eden tonight. They have
been sighted heading for Khyber Pass road. Police believe they escaped by tying sheets together.
LION NATHAN LEAVING: Lion Nathan is moving its HQ to Australia. Lion says it makes sense to have its corporate office in
Australia as 80% of its profits come from Australia. The company says the move will not affect its sponsorship in NZ, $5
million worth. Doug Meyers says that NZ should make its investment climate more friendly. Jim Anderton says his comments
are "a bit rich" given that Meyers took $500 million in Japanese investment in NZ. The company believes its share price
will benefit from the move.
BITUMEN EXPLOSION: Two men have been injured after a bitumen tank explosion at Taranaki's port.
CAVE CREEK REMEMBERED: Family and friends have gathered at Cave Creek to remember the 14 people who died there five
years ago. Justice Minister Phil Goff has announced that the law may be changed concerning liability for government
departments. The parents of the dead are applauding the decision.
GUN THEFT: Police believe and organised gang is behind the theft of 165 hand guns from a lock-up vault in Wellington.
Police are concerned about the possible use of the firearms in incidents and are putting lots of resources in the hunt
for the burglars. NZ First MP Ron Mark is concerned that the thieves had inside information.
COMPLEX FRAUD: Joanne Cole has plead guilty to complex fraud involving the creation of identities using dead infants
birth certificates to obtain several passports, credit cards, drivers licenses and goods. In November last year the
woman left the country. She spent more than $500,000 through her 22 identities.
FIRE: Firefighters have renewed calls for greater use of smoke alarms after a blaze in a garage nearly killed one man
and his family.
ZIMBABWE: The British Foreign Minister has told a Zimbabwean delegation that there will be no money from the UK
Government until the violence and farm occupations end. No hints of progress in over seven hours of talks.
PILOT FUNERAL: Family and friends have farewelled the pilot of a Cessna that crashed earlier this week near Lindis Pass.
THE LAST KNIGHT: The Governor General will perform the last NZ Knighthood ceremony in Tuhoi country tomorrow. The latest
Knight says he does not approve of the end of royal honours.
