EAST TIMOR DEATH: The NZ Soldier killed in a road accident in East Timor yesterday was due home next month. Three NZers were also injured in the accident when the vehicle went off a bluff.
TURKEY: The PM says Turkey has huge potential as a trading partner for New Zealand. The world’s 16th largest economy Turkey will be the second largest country in the EU when it joins.
ZIMBABWE: The opposition Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe says two party activists have been murdered in the last 24 hours. Another was killed on Friday. A memorial service has been held in Harare for murdered farmer David Stevens.
FAST FERRY: Tranzrail passengers were forced to sleep in the Picton Ferry Terminal overnight after swells of 4.5 metres led to the cancellation of fast ferry crossings.
CESSNA CRASH: Civil Aviation inspectors and police will continue investigations today into the Lindis Pass Cessna crash at the weekend.
SINGAPORE AIRLINES: Singapore Airlines has asked the government to relax foreign ownership rules relating to Air New Zealand. It has agreed now to purchase BIL’s 16% stake of B shares taking its shareholding to 25%.
SUHARTO ASSETS: The Indonesian Attorney General has formally requested information from NZ concerning assets of the Suharto family. Phil Goff says evidence will be needed that
CANCER INQUIRY: The Gisborne Cancer Inquiry continues today with more evidence from Ministry of Health witnesses. Bob Boyd is expected to face more questions today.
JOE’S TOES: Solo Pacific rower Jo Le Guen has had his last two toes amputated now he has returned to France.
WASHINGTON SHOOTING: Police in Washington are hunting for a suspected lone gunman who shot and injured seven children at Washington Zoo.
INDIAN TOURISM: Tourism NZ is crediting India’s film industry with a 25% rise in the number of tourists from India.
