CERVICAL INQUIRY: A nameless woman was the first to give evidence in the Inquiry into the Gisborne Pathologist
responsible for the misdiagnosis of 400 cervical smears. The testimony from women who had their names suppressed was
often emotional. There was also harsh criticism for the man held responsible for the disaster- Dr Michael Bottrill.
INQUIRY BOTCH-UP: The run up to the inquiry was not without problems. A woman involved in the inquiry received a letter
with information about another woman in a Health Department botch-up.
FRAMING CASE: A top lawyer is giving evidence in a case where he alleges he was set up by police planting evidence.
SCIENTIST’S BOAT: World reknowned scientist Dr David Lewis had to abandon plans to return sacred artifacts to Great
Barrier Island when his concrete yacht sank. The yacht was not insured.
STOLEN TREASURE: There is still no sign of the sunken treasure stolen from Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World on Sunday.
Police are looking for a worker at the centre in connection with the case but believe he may have already fled the
country.
SIR SYSTEM SCRAPPED: Knights and Dames will be scrapped being replaced with a five tier New Zealand order of merit the
Prime Minister Announced today. The new system will begin at the next the Queen’s birthday weekend honours list.
Opposition Leader Jenny Shipley has pledged to restore the knighting system if reelected.
SOLDIERS PARDONED: Five New Zealand soldiers executed for desertion have now been pardoned by the Prime Minister today
after revelations they were likely to have been shell-shocked. However the RSA is not happy with the judgment saying the
Government is trying to rewrite history.
