FLETCHER PAPER SALE: The chairman of Fletcher Challenge says the Norweigian company that plans to buy its paper division will look after its staff. Rod Deane says the new owners have guaranteed to maintain current working conditions for at least two years. Deane says the deal is also good for shareholders.
MICROSOFT: Microsoft shares have lost 15% of their value as markets prepare for a judge’s decision on Microsoft. Microsoft had been trying to negotiate an out of court settlement. Judge Thomas Jackson is expected to rule against the country.
BAY OF PLENTY TRAGEDY: As searchers prepare to resume a search for three people missing in a boating accident in the Bay of Plenty the weather is increasingly unattractive. Friends of the skipper Ross Robertson are in a state of shock.
SOLO ROWER: A New Zealand container ship is battling weather conditions in the southern ocean taking rower Joe Le Guin towards Chile at full speed.
BOSNIAN ARREST: French peace keepers in Bosnia have arrested a high ranking Serbian politician in Bosnia. He is accused of genocide and crimes against humanity.
SAMOAN ASSASSINATION TRIAL: The trial in Samoa of two former politicians accused of murdering a Cabinet Minister is nearly over. The defence begins its closing address today.
VD: Public health officials are worried about continued increases in the incidence of gonnerreah.
AUTOMATIC AIR GUNS: The police are concerned that people may not be aware they are breaking the law in owning fully automatic air guns without a restricted weapons notice.
VIDEO UMPIRES: NZ Crickets umpiring manager says umpires should have greater use of video replays at their disposal.
