CERVICAL INQUIRY: The Ministerial Inquiry into the Gisborne cervical screening misdiagnosis is not likely to start until April. Health Minister Annette King says the two delays have been unavoidable and are due to the changing of the venue from Auckland to Gisborne and the subsequent departure of the inquiry team’s head.
PINOCHET IN CHILE: A judge in Chile has begun legal moves to strip Chilean General Augusto Pinochet of his legal immunity from prosecution as a life senator in the Chilean government.
GPS THREATENED: Two general practitioners on the West Coast say they have had to turn away patients for abusive and violent behaviour.
BULK FUNDING ROW: A row is brewing to contest the Government plans to undermine bulk funding of teachers and principals salaries. Not all schools and teachers are pleased with the changes.
ACC CHANGES: The National Opposition will seek to amend the ACC legislation to see that employer’s safety records are taken into account when they are levied for Accident Compensation Insurance.
ACC LEVY IS LESS: The Government has announced that the businesses will pay around 1.16 $1.16 per $100 of payroll levy an amount which is less than the present system.
MOZAMBIQUR HOMELESS: A quarter of a million people displaced by floods in Mozambique now need somewhere to shelter as the flood waters decrease.
US ELECTIONS: “Super Tuesday,” the last chance for both Republican and Democrat Presidential hopefuls to win the race to become their party’s candidate for president begins tomorrow.
