ELLIS INQUIRY - The Justice Minister has been asked to put a child advocate into in the inquiry of the trial of convicted sex offender Peter Ellis by the Commissioner for Children Roger McClay.
DRIVER CHARGED: A Wanganui man has appeared today in the district court charged with failing to stop at an accident after two boys were found dead in a river bank.
DRIVER CHARGED: A man charged with dangerous driving causing death has also appeared in a Wanganui District Court after a woman driver was killed in a police chase with the man.
GIRL SHOT: In Flint Michigan a six-year-old girl is dead when a small boy shot her in class.
GIRL BURNT: The Police say they will rectify the behaviour of a Rotorua child who set fire to her six-year-old friend causing third degree burns.
AMERICA’S CUP: The forth race for the America’s Cup today is expected to go ahead after four days of delays.
GAMBLING PROBLEMS: A pre-trial inquiry has been told a man accused of murdering his wife and children had large debts and gambling problems.
MOZAMBIQUE FLOODS: A new surge of floodwaters has hit parts of Southern Mozambique with families still perched precariously on rooftops away from the rising waters.
PETROL PRICE RISE: Petrol retailer BP will join Mobil in raising its petrol and diesel prices by three cents tonight, the third rise in a month.
BROADCASTING INDUSTRY: The broadcasting industry says the elimination of children’s advertising on television would undermine the amount of locally made television programmes due to the drop in revenue.
NATIONAL QUALIFICATION: A delay to the implementation of a new National qualification for secondary schools which replaces School Certificate has been criticised by teachers and the opposition.
CHATHAMS DOCTORS: Chatham Islanders are upset that a doctor , who was in the Island for only six months, is leaving because his wife cannot get registration in New Zealand.
