America’s Cup x 4 – ACC Changes – Artist Dies
AMERICAS CUP: A crewman with a badly gashed head and a snag on the keel helped Team New Zealand sail to a two-nil win over Italian Team Prada. In the second race of the America’s Cup Team NZ went off to an early lead of 18 seconds at the starting mark. Then an early disaster hit the Prada Crew when crewman Maximiliano Soreno was hit over the head by a pole being used to un-snag flotsam on Italy’s keel. The crewman had to be taken off the Luna Rossa by a rescue boat and was given 7 stitches by the Cup medic.
AMERICA'S CUP: The Italians still are not sure what was snagging their boat which, in the first leg of the race, was momentarily brought close to a standstill. The crew would talk to media later tonight after an after race meeting.
AMERICA’S CUP: It may have been a workday but thousands flocked to the America’s Cup Village in Auckland to watch the race, among them NZ’s first America’s Cup sailor Terry Hammond who battled the Americans in the race for the Australians in 1962. Mr Hammond says he backs Black Magic to win this time.
AMERICA’S CUP: Meanwhile other New Zealanders went online to America’s Cup website to watch with millions to watch Black Magic and Luna Rossa in 3-D animation. Online commentators provided constant commentary to the race.
ACC CHANGES: The Government has backed down over its controversial ACC legislation allowing self-employed people like farmers to provide their own estimations for Accident Compensation levies.
ARTIST DIES: Frederick Hundertwasser, a well known European artist who designed an abstract public toilet in Northland , has died travelling en-route from New Zealand to his native Austria.
