TVNZ: The Dominion leads today with a report that Television New Zealand’s board members, including chairwoman Rosanne Meo, knew of the terms of news reader John Hawkesby’s $750,000-a-year package before it was negotiated, the Government learned yesterday. In a related sidebar NZ First leader Winston Peters offered yesterday to drive broadcaster Paul Holmes to the airport if he wants to quit New Zealand.
TVNZ: A front-page photo panel shows the Prime Minister – “Enticement is the real scandal” – Michael Cullen – “The board was fully aware – Marion Hobbs – “Some of my perceptions have changed”, as well as pictures of the TVNZ board members.
Also on the front page:
- DREADLOCKS: a report that dreadlocks may be acceptable for an MP in the halls of Parliament, but they are not allowed in the corridors of a Northland school;
- WINZ INQUIRY: a report that the Government announced yesterday a sweeping inquiry into Work and Income New Zealand slating the department’s reputation for “wastage and extravagance”;
- TOPLESS SPORTS REPORTER: a report that a topless body-painted cover picture of television sports presenter Bernadine Oliver-Kerby is not a cheap publicity stunt, says magazine NZ Rugby World – for cheap publicity they would have hired a model with bigger breasts;
- PREGNANCY LETTER: some women who had miscarriages or terminated pregnancies last year were sent a letter congratulating them on their impending deliveries.
