INQUIRY PAY: The chairman of the Electricity inquiry David Caygill is to get $1500 per day with the other two panel
memebers getting $1000 each per day. The government says the total cost of the inquiry will be around one million
dollars. National calls the inquiry a waste of taxpayers money.
SUPRESSED TIMBERLANDS REPORT: Government Ministers have released a report on Timberlands Native forests which states
that nine out of ten of the forests were assesed as having either high or medium conservation values. The government
says the previous National administration had tried to suppress this report.
PRINCIPALS PAY: Primary school principals are the first to be affected by the government’s collective bargaining law
changes. Now both principals on individual and collective contracts will be eligible for the same funding benefits. The
Government says National’s approach was to bribe principals to take the individual contracts.
HIV BRACELET: Canturbury health officials say that electronic bracelet may be the only way that an HIV infected,
mentally handicapped man can be stopped from having sex in toilets.
MEDICAL TRAINING: Army Medical services surgical teams who will go to field hospitals in East Timor have begun training
today.
