CER and Lotteries – New Stadium Expensive – Shoes Turned Back From Timor – Lynx U-Turn – Drugs Billionaire – Jonah’s New House – Triplets Born To Grandmother – Lord Of The Rings Set – Editorial: Millennium Baby
CER: The Dominion leads today with a report that Australia’s massive multi-million-dollar lotteries could sell tickets in New Zealand under the closer economic relations agreement, threatening the future of the Lotteries Commission.
STADIUM: The front-page photo story shows stadium-goers having their bags searched at the entrance to Wellington’s new stadium. A report says while the stadium may be fantastic if you are relying on it for food and parking you may spend more than an arm and a leg.
Also on the front:
- TIMOR: a report that a donation of 3000 pairs of shoes to war-ravaged East Timor has been stopped after most were found to be high heels or white wedding shoes;
- LYNX: a report that the Lynx ferry had to make a U-turn after leaving Picton last night when a passenger discovered his 10-year-old daughter was still waiting on shore;
- DRUGS BILLIONAIRE: a report that Auckland airport police are considering their options after a visiting billionaire businessman walked free from court after admitting importing class B and C drugs into New Zealand;
- JONAH: a report that Wellington is looking just peachy from the sprawling mansion that millionaire All Black Jonah Lomu is buying in Mapuia above the harbour;
- TRIPLETS: a report that a 54-year-old grandmother gave birth to girl triplets in a Washington hospital yesterday.
Inside:
- LORD OF THE RINGS: a photo report showing a fortress believed to be a set for the Lord of the Rings film trilogy taking shape on Haywards Hill near Lower Hutt;
- EDITORIAL: Being the first baby of the Millennium may not be so much of a boon as thought.
