Just when you thought the full-page glossy ad for a Wellington strip bar in the Yellow Pages took the cake, the seedy
side of the internet has now infiltrated godzone.
Scoop was surprised to learn last week that New Zealand now hosts not one but at least two Kiwi based pornographic
internet sites. There could well be more but a quick flick through SearchNZ revealed just the two.
The first site - SexNZ - says, on its front page, that the site was created because New Zealand lacked a site “of this
nature”. It says SexNZ “provides a fearless and intelligent forum for both genders, whilst maintaining a distinctly New
Zealand flavour… Sex New Zealand is dedicated to providing material and images about sex, life and anything a little bit
unusual for sex enthusiasts all over the country.”
Last week the site ran an editorial titled ‘Watch Out For The Christians’which was aimed at keeping the Christian
Heritage Party out of government. A piece of it reads: “In the New Zealand that Graham Caphill and his mates dream of,
there will be no more divorce, no sexual freedom (watch out if you are gay or lesbian) and women who get drunk will be
imprisoned for tempting men into morally corrupt behaviour.”
The distinctly New Zealand focussed editorial must be the ‘distinct New Zealand flavour’ because there is little else
that makes it ‘more Kiwi’ than other ‘adult’ sites around the world.
The other site – sexshare – promotes itself as , “an on-line resource for sensuous individuals and couples”. Hosted by
‘Tina’ the site offers “a New Zealand perspective on sensuality and sexuality, while providing discerning adults with an
open forum and medium to explore their sensual nature free from bias and prejudice”.
Again here the ‘New Zealand perspective’ is hard to see. Both sites are protected by internet password systems which
means you have to pay to join. Still, you probably don’t want your kids going here.
Scoop will not link to these sites but they are easy enough to find through SearchNZ.co.nz – for those interested in the
New Zealand flavour. Just use the most popular word on the internet.
Well there you go. Just thought you would like to know that New Zealand is indeed keeping up with the rest of the world.
