Cinderella Party Plans To Crash Election Ball
Story By Justine de Spa
Members, supporters and candidates of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand gathered together last night in the Great Hall at the Arts Centre in Christchurch to formally celebrate their campaign closure.
The atmosphere was of optimism for a healthy society and genuine praise for a clean and open campaign, well run and worked hard.
Top three list candidtes Jeanette Fitzsimons, Rod Donald and Ian Ewen-Street spoke about themselves, party policies and the campaign.
Banks Peninsula MP and Party Co- leader, Rod Donald, stated that he had travelled the length of the country encountering overwhelming support and the most common question asked of him is " will my vote count if I give my party vote to the Green Party?". With the poll statistics rising from 3.6% at the start of the campaign one month ago to now 7.2% and still rising his answer is an emphatic, yes.
Quote of the evening from Rod: "We are the Cinderella Party of this election campaign but by God,we're going to gate crash that ball!"
Coromandel Candidate and Co-Leader, Jeanette Fitzsimons, spoke of the Green Party Policies to deafening applause and two standing ovations, especially over the issues of safe food, genetic engineering, native forest logging and closed door bargaining and decision making in Parliament. She stated that this is the government term that can and will save MMP and show that it can work as the people of New Zealand hoped and intended it would.
