Death Toll In Train Disaster Could Top 170, Two Kiwis Probably Dead
- About 70 people are confirmed dead in London's worst rail disaster and close to 200 have been injured. One burnt out
carriage has yet to be opened and emergency services are expecting to find it full of bodies when they can do so safely.
Over 100 people are still missing. It is thought the accident occured when one train ran a red light and an inquiry is
already underway. A 26 year old Wellington accountant, Brendan Bentley, was injured in the crash. He suffered two broken
bones, concussion, cuts and lacerations and has had his spleen removed. He is OK in hospital. Two Kiwis are thought to
have died in the smash - 28 year old Alan Stewart and 20 year old Matt Macauley. The hotline for friends and family is
at the top of the page.
