The Government has told the House that there will be another urgency session next week.
Following the completion of this urgency session, the House resumed with Question Time, coverage of this will be
published in the headlines wire.
Following Question Time, the Government will move a motion setting up special select committee to consider the
restructuring of the dairy industry
The motion reads:
That this House appoint a committee of nine members to consider the Dairy Industry Restructuring Bill; the committee to
consist of Gavan Herlihy, Owen Jennings, Hon Denis Marshall, Alec Neill, Damien O'Connor, Hon Jim Sutton, R Doug
Woolerton, John Wright and Annabel Young; and that the committee have the authority to meet at any time while the House
is sitting (except during questions for oral answer), during an evening on a day on which there has been a sitting of
the House, and on a Friday in a week in which there has been a sitting of the House, notwithstanding Standing Orders 200
and 202 and the sessional order of 17 December 1998; and the committee finally report the bill on or by 30 August 1999.
Following that debate the House will return to the committee stages of Child Support Amendment Bill (No. 5).
The Leader of the House has indicated in his business statement that the House will go into urgency again next week to
further progress the Government’s legislation. Mr Sowry said that a time to debate changes to the liquor laws has yet to
be finalised, but will probably happen in this session.
