House Goes Into Urgency

Published: Tue 13 Jul 1999 08:10 PM
The House has gone into urgency as the Government attempts to tidy up the order paper as the amount of time allowed for sitting days slowly ebbs away.
The urgency motion covered the:
Introduction and passing of the Forest Amendment Bill;
Second readings of the Fisheries amendment Bill (no2), the Maori Purposes Bill, the Ngati Tarangitukua Claims Settlement Bill;
Completing the passage of the Education (Te Aho Matua) Amendment Bill
The introduction and passage of the:
Arms Amendment Bill
Resource Management Act Amendment Bill
Dairy Industry Restructuring Bill
Human Rights Amendment Bill
And the completion of the Child Support Amendment Bill (No. 5).
The Leader of the House, Roger Sowry, said that all Bills set down for introduction and passage would in fact be sent to select committee for consideration.
The Shadow Leader of the House, Jonathon Hunt sought leave for a question time to be held tomorrow, this was declined.
A rather optimistic Mr Sowry said that with the co-operation of the House he was hopeful that Thursday would see a normal sitting day.
A number of Opposition MPs took exception to the Dairy Industry Restructuring Bill not being yet ready for examination.
MPs are currently debating the Forest Amendment Bill which cover the 'Silna' Problem, there is extensive coverage through out The Scoop on the subject.
