Regulation Debate The Government has indicated it will extend controls over electricity pricing to retail companies as well as line monopolies. This follows The Commerce Select Committee recommending the Government restrict the costs that retailers are able to load on to customers who opt to shift to a competitor. ACT opposes the move, and Labour and New Zealand First are reserving their position, although they support regulation in principle. National Conference Snippets - Trade Minister Lockwood Smith shocked delegates by apologising for failing to stop the US imposing tariffs on our lamb. He says he's felt the decision very deeply and has paid tribute to the Prime Minister and Jim Bolger, for helping control the damage.
