Civil Defence accidentally send out alert for magnitude-6.6 earthquake
Civil Defence has mistakenly put out a warning for a magnitude 6.6 quake that reportedly hit south of the Kermadec Islands.
The tweet we have deleted related to an old earthquake notification. There is no current event. We apologise for any confusion.— MCDEM (@NZcivildefence) March 14, 2019

Civil Defence originally said it was assessing a magnitude 6.6 quake that hit south of the Kermadec islands.
But it soon clarified that the message related to an old earthquake notification and said there was no current event.
