World Vision responding to powerful earthquake in Nepal
World Vision is responding to a powerful 7.5 earthquake that struck Nepal early Saturday morning.
“We are still experiencing aftershocks,” says Liz Satow, World Vision Nepal’s National Director. “People are staying
outside buildings to be safe. Our priority right now is to establish contact with our staff in Lamjung who are closest
to the epicenter and with all staff based in Kathmandu".
Sunjuli Kunwar, a communications specialist with World Vision Nepal was at an indoor football match when the earthquake
struck. “The whole stadium was shaking. People started to rush out and couldn’t control their movements. Many fell and
hurt themselves".
“Afterward, I rushed to my house because my son was there. Some walls have come down but he is safe".
Another staff member, Phillip Ewert says people are too scared to go back inside their homes are instead riding out the
aftershocks in fields. "Infastructure has been badly damaged. Hotels have collapsed. There are also reports of people
being trapped in temples as there was a large religious festival on today".
All incoming flights have been canceled at Tribhuvan International Airport.
