Tax Bill And Child Support Delay To Be Debated
The Government is looking to pass a taxation bill when Parliament sits this afternoon.
After Question Time, MPs will debate the third reading of the Taxation (Annual Rates, Foreign Superannuation, and Remedial Matters) Bill.
As well as setting the tax rate the bill, amongst other things, also delays the planned reform of child support laws.
After already being delayed to the beginning of the coming tax year, Inland Revenue said late last year it was unable to
implement the reforms and they have been pushed back again for another 12 months. This bill was amended to allow for the
delay to take place.
This will be followed by the second reading of the Border Processing (Trade Single Window and Duties) Bill.
Parliament sat at 9am today under extended hours provisions to debate treaty settlements.
The second readings of the Te Tau Ihu Claims Settlement Bill, Raukawa Claims Settlement Bill and the Maungaharuru-Tangitu Hapu Claims Settlement Bill were all completed on a voice vote.
A large number of MPs and parties interested in the bill were unable to make this morning’s sitting due to fog closing
Wellington Airport. This included members of the Maori Affairs Committee who were holding hearings on another treaty
bill out of the Capital.
