Looking Towards Easter

The Government will seek to make progress on welfare and local electoral law reform next week.
Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said when the House sat next Tuesday the Government would seek to progress the Student Loan Scheme Amendment Bill (No 2), Social Security (Benefit Categories and Work Focus) Amendment Bill. and the Local Electoral Amendment Bill (No 2).
Wednesday would be a members day and Brownlee expected MPs to agree to rise early on Thursday before the Easter Holidays.
MPs agreed to two notices of motion, one noting that today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and supports the United Nations Secretary-General’s call that we should “recommit to ending racial discrimination and realising our vision of justice, equality and freedom from fear for all.
The second noted that today is the eighth anniversary of World Down’s Syndrome Day and the House recognised the contribution that those with Down’s Syndrome made to the House.

Then the last speech in the second reading of the Local Electoral Amendment Bill (No 2) will be followed by the second reading of the Crown Minerals (Permitting and Crown Land) Bill and the third reading of the Minimum Wage (Starting-out Wage) Amendment Bill
