When Parliament resumed at 2pm MPs marked the death of Geoff Braybrooke, a former Labour MP and Deputy Speaker.
A motion condemning the beating and torture of detainees in Fiji and calling on them to be held to account was passed on
voice vote as was a motion noting with gratitude diplomats actions during the Iran hostage crisis and regretting they
were wrongly portrayed in a recent film Argo.
Another motion congratulating the Black Socks for their softball world cup win was also passed on a voice vote.
A petition was presented recommending the Government conduct an inquiry into the Ministry of Social Development's
handling of the case of Graeme Axford, and that he be given a reasonable opportunity, due to his disability, to present
his complaint in person.
The Government Superannuation Fund, Report on the Actuarial Valuation as at 30 June 2012 was presented as was the Auditor General’s report into the decision by the former Associate Minister of Immigration, Mr
Shane Jones, to grant citizenship to Mr Yong Ming Yan.
