Werewolf #14 Out Now - Teen S*x Shock Special

Werewolf Edition 14 Is Now Available - The Teen S*x Shock Horror Special

From Werewolf Editor Gordon Campbell

Dear Scoop Subscriber,

Hi and welcome to the teen s*x issue of Werewolf, and hey, this should have happened long before now - given that werewolves and vampires are famously known to be stand-ins for our untamed sexual urges. So, go crazy. If teenagers didn't exist - and they didn't before rock n' roll created them - adults couldn't bitch about how badly young people dress, drink and drive these days, not to mention how scandalously they make out with each other. Politicians also find them to be a useful punching bag. In our cover story though, we ask whether any hard evidence exists that justifies the prevailing myths about teenage sexual immorality - and conclude that teenage sexuality seems to have flatlined, and may be on the decline, especially compared to how their parents carried on.

Elsewhere in this issue, we interview economist Shamubeel Eaqub about how New Zealand should be nurturing its economy through what looks like years of weak economic recovery. We also analyse the government's sales pitch to women voters - and the way it offers hardline policies for the blokes, but consistently dresses up the extremism in the language of compassion, lest it frighten the ladies. In other stories James Robinson bravely sat down and watched all six Saw horror movies in a row, and kept a diary of his responses. In his Milestone Movies column this week, Brannavan Gnanalingam asks whether the blatant racism in Birth of A Nation should disqualify the film from having such iconic status - and queries whether art always needs to affirm positive moral values before it can qualify as being truly great art ? In the music column, The Complicatist offers a few good reasons for not regarding Canada as naff, by definition. Elsewhere, Satirist Lyndon Hood discovers a government intent on mining vast reserves of irony, and in the Classics column, we celebrate the Toy Story 3 movie and the Rosemary Wells book Peabody for the way they deal with toys and the fears about dependency that we play out through them. In Talking Sport, Wellington writer Lamont Russell looks back at this year's Tour de France and discovers some startling and disturbing evidence of good sportsmanship, altruism and humanity among cycling's top athletes. No wonder Lance Armstrong found it tough going this year.
