The lawn outside Parliament on Wednesday was immaculate as always, but that didn’t stop several dozen demonstrators poring over it in search of a way to close New Zealand’s gender pay gap.
The small crowd clad in fluoro vests held aloft styrofoam boulders and called on Minister of Women’s Affairs Pansy Wong to meet a 2009 promise to “leave no stone unturned in trying to close the pay gap”.
The demonstration also marked one year since the Government’s decision to scrap its Pay & Employment Equity Unit.
