Fans And Protesters Welcome Prince
The 1000 plus crowd outside the opening of the Supreme Court in Wellington
was a mix of Prince William fans, young and old, Monarchists and protesters
from the PSA and Republican movement.
Protesters made the most of the media presence at the opening of the Supreme
Court in Wellington by making as much noise as they could.
Ministry of Justice staff, represented by the PSA, was the most vocal.
Men and women banged sticks of wood on the placards they were waving, while
megaphones blasted out calls for fair pay and criticism was directed at the
cost of the court.
The Republican Movement also waved signs and called for a constitution and a
new flag.
Many fans waiting for Prince William expressed their disgust at the actions
of the protesters.
One man said to a republican protester, "you're an embarrassment to our
country."
Some people watched from above from high buildings overlooking Lambton Quay.
Police and other security controlled the traffic and monitored the crowd.
Fans were pleased with Prince William's effort and willingness to chat with
them.
