The Prime Minister talked at some length at her regular post-cabinet press conference about being plunged into darkness after a transformer went AWOL in Wellington. The back-up power generators at the nation's hub also went AWOL and it was to paraphrase Simon And Garfunkel 'hello darkness my old friend'.
Scoop was also badly afflicted by the blackout and so it was heartening to discover that those in positions of power were also suffering. The Prime Minister also traversed the Kahui verdict and was fulsome in praise for New Zealand driver Scott Dixon who today won the Indy 500 motor race, the marquee event on the IndyCar circuit in the United States.
