Let’s Play Spot the Torch!

Sensible people stayed at home and watched the Olympic Torch Relay on the telly this afternoon, but I decided it was too nice a spring day to stay inside so I ventured over to the Embarcadero section of the relay route in San Francisco.

The relay route was supposed to end at Justin Herman Plaza, opposite the Ferry Building, and with all the supporters and dissenters and media around it seemed like I only had to wait until 4pm, when the farewell ceremony would begin.

On the stage in the middle of the plaza, a band was playing to add to the festive atmosphere. The Olympic Mascots were a great favorite for folks wanting to have their photo taken with them.

But we waited and waited....
.... until eventually the police re-opened the street to traffic, saying the torch wasn’t coming.

Since I seem to have taken photos only of the Olympic supporters end of the plaza, I’ll leave the last word to the Free Tibet group at the other end of the plaza, upon hearing that the torch relay had been successfully completed. In another part of the City altogether!
