America’s Show Force for an Iraqi Meltdown
By Genevieve Cora Fraser
The theater of war
Is a battle for here we are
In Kirkuk, Bagdad, Basra
Targets militants
In security operations
Terrorists suspects rejoice
As the US economy
Melts down as the Iraq
Infrastructure implodes
Further damaging US credibility
Here there and everywhere
In Iraq families huddle
As shrapnel sweeps their home
Shiite parties wage war
As a ballot box
For war lords and strongmen
In and out of favor as US forces
Weave in and out of Sunni
Strongholds against Shiite
Insurgents their friends
Are their enemy now you see them
Now you don’t know who planted
A car bomb that detonated
Black in the tents
No sleep in sight as fear
In the night
Seeps into bones and bowels
They got hit we didn’t yet
Emotionless
Mission creeps through pothole
Booby traps atop oil fields
Strategically located along
Alleyways astride waterways
The mission isn’t over Cowboy
Captured in the endless trip
Through desert sands that stand
Between us and them
What a trip roped into combat
Without end Hey, Bird dog
The Iraqi army is on the bridge
To nowhere Bird dog
Give his status Negative
Smoking vehicle burning right
Left busted up and broken down
Two more missions then home
Free fire rebounds
Suckers flack shrapnel
Blast the Iraqi checkpoint
Blasted humvee
A defining moment
Death
