Scoop TV: Marking Five Years Since Iraq Invasion
Scoop TV is tonight broadcasting a documentary titled: Iraq – In Search of Hope. The documentary will broadcast at 9pm on Triangle TV (Wellington) and at 9:30pm on Stratos TV (SkyTV channel 89 and Freeview channel 21).
The documentary features Harmeet Sooden who, in late November 2005, was captured along with three other colleagues and held hostage in Baghdad for four months.
Harmeet Sooden gives a rare account of his thoughts on Iraq, his feelings toward his captors, and notes the loss of his
colleague and fellow captive Tom Fox, whose body was found two weeks before Harmeet, Jim Loney, and Norman Kember were
rescued in March 2006.
This documentary identifies with a loss of hope for Iraq's people and connects with the impact that the United States
led invasion and subsequent war has caused. It examines the purpose of protest, and how actions outside of Iraq provide
a glimmer of hope to those inside Iraq who realise there are people free in the outside world who care for their plight
and are intent to bring about change.
Scoop TV cautions that footage in this documentary will cause some distress to some viewers – but Scoop believes that it
is vital to display the true consequences of war without censor nor sanction.
