Santa Cruz Media Strategy Conferance Update
Almost daily, more material is being added to the Truth Emergency website, so it's worth going back often to check. At time of writing, the front page features a video of Cynthia McKinney's presentation.
Peter Phillips, whose Project Censored students were crucial to the organization of the conference, tells me that about 350 people attended. In response to a question about the group processes, he told me he thought it was the most effective part. "It takes time and I wish we had another day for the action planning." Video of the action steps that resulted from the planning process is here.
"As a result of the conference," Phillips says, "over 50 people/activists have signed on to help plan a national independent media news sources on-line that would offer a full days news totally separate from the top-down corporate media system. Activists at the final news network session fully agreed that we need a news truth movement that fully utilizes available trustworthy sources and helps build independent media worldwide."
::Correction::
I inadvertently misspelled Daniel Schechter's name in my earlier article, and also said he was a "self-styled news dissector" and misrepresented his film. I thank him for putting me straight:
Actually, the name was given to me by a colleague at WBCN radio in l971 and stuck for ten years on a commercial radio station in Boston.  I use it today as the name of my blog at Mediachannel.org. I am also still a television producer and filmmaker with Globalvision. I was a producer at ABC and CNN. My film IN DEBT WE TRUST is not just about debt but dealt with the danger of predatory lending/subprime loans which sparked the current crisis in the GLOBAL economy. That's what I was referencing--the failure of many on the left to tackle economic justice issues.
Danny also has an e-book out called SQUEEZED: America As The Bubble Bursts, which can be downloaded from coldtype.net.
