As time ticks down for the final stages needed for the success of Sue Bradford's attempt to repeal Section 59 (the defence used by parents to physically discipline children) two press conferences were called on the subject. Firstly the Maori Party had a short interaction with the media where it was explained that all Maori Party MP's would be supporting Ms Bradford's repeal of Section 59. Then it was Ms Bradford's turn to face the media – assisting Ms Bradford's arguments were a number of NGO's that believe Ms Bradford's efforts will help stem child abuse in NZ. Alos vocal in support of the repeal of Section 59 was Labour's Lynne Pillay who is the chairperson of the Justice and Electoral Committee that has been hearing evidence on Section 59's repeal.
