Pelosi and the Democrats Perpetuate Commission’s Betrayal & Cover-up of 9/11

Today, Speaker of the House Pelosi and several of her Democratic colleagues announced legislation (HR1) that would enact
many more of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations. It’s hard to argue with their oft repeated mantra that these
recommendations will make us safer and no doubt some, perhaps most, will do so.
In her introductory remarks, Speaker Pelosi harkened back to the creation of the 9/11 Commission saying, “we promised to
fight terrorism…to give comfort to the families.” Well, as is so often the case with the usual rhetoric about “making us
safer” and “honoring the families” Speaker Pelosi is charging ahead with an agenda that overlooks one of the most
discomforting realities, one that is all too often denied. According to Mindy Kleinberg and Lorie Van Auken, leading
members of the Family Steering Committee, the Commission failed to answer 70% of their well-founded and well-researched

Who can take comfort in the fact that the very same Commission the Democratic leadership champions by working to enact
its recommendations also failed to answer most of the questions posed by the 9/11 families? What could be more of an
insult than this affront to the very 9/11 victim family members they promised “a full accounting”? To push
recommendations all the while ignoring the Commission’s failure or refusal to answer even some of the most basic
questions about what happened or seek to hold a single office holder, agent, or officer accountable is reprehensible and
shameful -- and a betrayal of the highest order.
Though some of the recommendations may possibly make Americans safer, we remain in grave peril because the Commission
utterly failed, likely by design, to provide a full accounting of what exactly happened on 9/11, and refused to point
fingers toward those responsible for violations of laws and standard operating procedures, not to mention the laws
broken by top officials who appeared to have covered up what happened by destroying evidence, denying access to key
documents and simply lying.
Speaker Pelosi and those who stood with her today on Capitol Hill, particularly Commissioners Hamilton and Roemer
continue to disgrace America and insult the 9/11 families for their part in ignoring a record of now well-documented
lies, cover-up, obfuscation and deception surrounding the horrific September 11th murders. Congress can now right the
wrong of the 9/11 Commission’s betrayal by holding hearings to examine evidence of cover-up and covered-up crimes with a
mind to get to the truth, the whole truth, once and for all.
