PM's Presser: Will Interest in Sustainability Be Sustainable?
The Prime Minister ponders a question from the press gallery Scoop Image - October 2006
*********
This afternoon the Prime Minister sustained a barrage of questions on sustainability and other ecologically associated
issues. The question and answer part of the post cabinet tete-a-tete between the PM and the media appeared to exist in
an alternate universe – one where the words Taito Philip Field, Thai Tiler and 'Auditor-General's election spending
report' did not exist. Instead the concept of how much carbon is produced getting food from NZ to European markets
seemed to be of immense interest to the environmentally aware members of the media.
Whether Labour's new goal of becoming greener results in them succeeding where the Exclusive Brethren failed – namely
knocking off enough Green supporters to stop the Green Party getting 5% of the vote next election remains to be seen.
