Nuke Test: North Korea Condemned For Testing Nuclear Device
NZ Prime Minister Helen Clark today said New Zealand utterly condemns the reports of a nuclear test by North Korea, saying it is a provocative and destabilising act for the region. “North Korea should have no illusion of the gravity with which the international community views its action. The UN Security Council has already moved, prior to news of this alleged test, and must now stay seized of this issue," Helen Clark said. (Image: North Korean leader Kim Jong Il) See... State Of It: Can Cunliffe Explain His Asylum-Seeker Flip-Flop?
Scoop's Selwyn Manning writes that prior to David Cunliffe becoming Immigration Minister he supported Thomas Yadegary's plight to seek refuge from Iran in New Zealand. Mr Cunliffe wrote to him on his MP's letterhead indicating ongoing support for Mr Yadegary's refugee status application. Why has Cunliffe now gone cold? Perhaps we will hear why during Parliament's question time today. See... Cunliffe Must Explain Flip-Flop Over Asylum Seeker [1]

Fisheries: Improving Exploited Foreign Workers Lot Incenses Maori Party -
Foreign fishing crews look set to see an improvement in their pay packets after the government announced a range of measures aimed at improving the conditions of foreign crew's working in New Zealand waters. Maori Party Co-leader Tariana Turia however is angered by the move to improve the lot of foreign fishing crews. Ms Turia pointed out in a press statement that the 'significant increase of up to $2 extra an hour over and above the minimum wage will hurt the Maori fishing industry.' See...
