Foreign fishing crews look set to see an improvement in their pay packets after the government announced a range of
measures aimed at improving the conditions of foreign crew's working in New Zealand waters. Maori Party Co-leader
Tariana Turia however is angered by the move to improve the lot of foreign fishing crews. Ms Turia pointed out in a
press statement that the 'significant increase of up to $2 extra an hour over and above the minimum wage will hurt the

- The Security Council today formally chose Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon of the Republic of Korea as its nominee to be
the next Secretary-General of the United Nations for a five-year term when incumbent Kofi Annan steps down on 31
December. The recommendation, made in a resolution adopted in a private meeting by acclamation, now goes to the
