Brady Ready To Detonate?
An electoral time-bomb, or a damp squib? The final report from the Controller and Auditor General Kevin Brady on
election spending is awaited in Parliament with a mixture of trepidation, hostility and eagerness, depending where you
stand.
Brash Steps Up The Heat
Opposition Leader Don Brash stepped up the heat this week, questioning the Police Commissioner Howard Broad over what he
called the “glaring inadequacies” of the Police inquiry into Labour’s spending on the pledge card, and the failure to
take a prosecution when there was a clear breach of the Electoral Act.
Labour Caucus Upset Over Tithing?
Defence Minister and Roskill MP Phil Goff has more often than usual in recent weeks been touching base with old Labour
friends and campaign supporters in the Auckland region. It is apparent there is little appetite among a number in the
Caucus for proposals to double MP’s party contributions if necessary, to pay for the infamous pledge card on which
Auditor General Kevin Brady will deliver a verdict next week.
Govt Moves Ahead On Climate Change Initiatives
Helen Clark has confirmed Cabinet has been working on a range of climate change initiatives including energy efficiency
in homes and buildings, and in the vehicle fleet, forestry and sustainable land use management.
