Should a bookmaker offer odds on embattled Labour MP Taito Philip Field making it back into cabinet while Helen Clark is Prime Minister it would be wise for even the most adventurous punter to keep hold of their cash. In fact, after today's post-cabinet press conference, the odds that Mr Field will be selected to stand as a Labour candidate for the next election would probably be astronomically long. Today the potentially scandalous issues surrounding the alleged on-goings at Mr Field's Mangere Electorate Office were once again raked over for the assembled media to feast upon.
Besides issues around Mr Field there were a number of questions regarding the death of a teenager who was being transferred to the Auckland Central Remand prison. At one stage the PM suggested a Dominion Post journalist may like to act as a guard in the back of a security van transferring dangerous prisoners. It seems unlikely however that the numerous inquiries surrounding the 17 year olds death will recommend Fairfax journalists overseeing NZ's most hardened and dangerous criminals.
Listen to a feast of Taito Philip Field questions and answers following the Prime Minister explaining what legislation is coming up in the near future
