Rolling average poll
Nats good, Don like a dog's dinner
National has opened up a comfortable two-point lead in our exclusive rolling poll of polls, although ironically – and a little unfairly – the fall in Don Brash’s personal popularity in the polls by both TV One and TV3 has speculation back in the media about his future.
Percent Seats
National 43.30 54
Labour 41.23 52
Greens 5.54 7
NZ First 3.78 0
Maori 2.12 4
United Future 1.37 2
Act 1.41 2
Progressives 0.29 1
It’s a 122 seat House with Jim Anderton and a Maori seat overhang. The necessary 62-seat majority is where exactly? Labour, Green and Progressives need two more seats, so the Maori Party or United Future could deliver. National and Act plus United Future need four more so it’s the Maori party on the fulcrum of power again.
Cabinet
G-G now honourable
Cabinet this week agreed a revamp of the letters patent – mainly to give the Governor-General the title of Honourable. With no imperial honours now on offer to Sir and Dame the G-G it was felt the poor proxies of the Queen needed a title to keep them satisfied of their importance. It is probably for the best. We can all remember the stink the judiciary caused in 2000 when their beloved knighthoods were taken from them. They felt they just couldn't hold their heads high in the inner sanctums of the British legal system without a moniker – and M & F would wish such suffering on no one.
