Dr Wayne Mapp engages in discourse with journalists
A Scoop reader has kindly sent in some pictures of yesterday's protest by a wide variety of unionists and workers over National MP Dr Wayne Mapp's Bill. The legislation drafted by Dr Mapp would see every worker given a three month probationary period when they started a new job.
Scoop understands that even some MPs that initially were in favour of Dr Mapp's Bill, namely United Future's Gordon Copeland, have difficulty with the broad scope of Dr Mapp's legislation. Initial support that was provided through to the select committee stage by members of the Maori Party also appears to be wavering.
In one of the pictures below Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell - who has yet to make up his mind on the legislation - appears to be getting some feedback from protestors on which way he should vote.
