Annelise Schroeder writes (at about 7pm on June 12): These are from Craigieholme, our property just outside Darfield in Canterbury. At 2am this morning, no snow. At 5.15am, lots of snow. By 3pm, we had 32cm on the path on one side of the house and 40cm on the other side. The power went out at 6.15am and came back on almost exactly 12 hours later. Currently it is not snowing but the sky is clear, so it will probably freeze hard overnight. We have lost many large branches off trees, but no other damage.
Unlike the Aucklanders, however, we have been fine. We have two open fires, one with a wetback, so we had heat and hot water. We toasted bread on the fire and listened to a battery radio.
