Despite the fact that the Leader of the Opposition Dr Don Brash had made a stirring speech in which he declared himself 'proud to be a Kiwi' the majority of today's questions at the PM's post-cabinet press conference related to New Zealand's military commitment to the troubled country of East Timor.
This meant it was hard to gauge just what the Prime Minister's reaction was to Dr Brash's vision of New Zealand in 2014. In his speech Dr Brash was keen on New Zealand celebrating sport in eight years time. In 2014 Dr Brash wanted to see a country where "success in sport, the arts, in science, and in business is celebrated."
Tragically for the insular and presumably sport hating New Zealand of 2006 all most journalists in the gallery wanted to know about today was anything and everything to do with Timor.
Listen to a lot of questions about Timor and a couple of questions about Don Brash's vision for NZ in 2014
