********
Today Tauranga MP Bob Clarkson welcomed the decision of the High Court to order NZ First leader Winston Peters to pay
$40,000 in costs following Mr Peters' failed election petition. Scoop caught up with Mr Clarkson for a short interview
in which he declared Mr Peters was now "history". During the interview Mr Clarkson explained why he considered it was
fair, that he as a businessman should be able to get good rates from suppliers of election advertising materials.
Listen To Bob Clarkson explain why he considers he getting a good deal through having a commercial relationship is fair
for all candidates (even those that do not have any commercial relationships):
Scoop also questioned Mr Clarkson on how he was able to, prior to the General Election, get his campaign van signwritten
for as little as $119 (inclusive of GST).
Mr Clarkson informed Scoop that the signwriting on the van had been done earlier in the year and had actually cost more
than $119 (inclusive of GST). Mr Clarkson further informed Scoop that this total was therefore less than the total cost
(estimated by Mr Clarkson as being in the vicinity of $700) due to the way election expenses are apportioned.
According to the High Court decision Peters vs Clarkson the signwriting on Mr Clarksons' van was done in late May 2005 and the entire cost was $119 (inclusive of GST).
