Hamas Plots Exodus from Israeli Bondage
By Genevieve Cora Fraser
He wore a Western business suit
And smile as he shook
My hand in Nablus
Abbas was about to speak
To Muslim, Christian and Jewish
Palestinians
He hurried to the meeting
As a member of Hamas
Proud to be
Part of the new promise
Surrounded by jackals wearing
Israeli uniforms armed tanks
Waited to burst back on the scene
The Israelis held their fire
That day in Nablus with Western
Press swarming about
No one was fooled by the apparent
Calm the momentary cease-fire until
Cameras were back in sound trucks
And Western eyes closed again
To the chaos that would soon
Reappear as night fell the calm
Before the storm relaxed
Fears momentarily
As families counted the blessings
From gardens they would no longer
Access with Israeli settlers
Holding siege burning olive bushes
Ablaze as the burning bush
Spoke to Moses of a promised
Land milk and honey
The gall of it all
Zionist Occupation
Out of bondage
The Aramaic speakers
The Ancient Ones
Were promised
Palestine and the Home
Of the Good Samaritans
Nablus' North and South
Sacred Mountains
Cradle the memory of Moses
The Old City now
Reverberates with the crackle
Of gunfire snipers roam
Besieging refugee camps
The elderly, the infirm
Children
Cower as they rampage
Soldiers storm into apartments
Arrest the development
Of a normal life lived
Ablaze with the desire
To burn the Tree of Life
Of Palestinians
The Almighty desire
For conquest
Over all the indigenous possess
The constant journey
Out of Life into Death's
Grip the People of Palestine
Unite behind resistance
Hamas Hamas Hamas
Their victorious beginning
Signals the hoped for end
Occupation's bondage
Broken
God's messenger
Ablaze with love
For country and for home
ENDS
