- Australia's police is becoming increasingly militarised, with NSW Police leading the way in trialling Taser
stun-guns. Taser are hand-held guns that fire two metal probes attached to copper wires, delivering a 55,000-volt
electric shock that lasts for five seconds. Victims typically fall to the ground and involuntarily urinate, with all
major muscle groups going into spasm. The guns have an effective range of 6.4 metres, with the possibility that

New Zealand will push for urgent interim measures to address the effects of bottom trawling on the high seas, Fisheries Minister Jim Anderton will tell parties to a
future Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (RFMO) meeting in Wellington today. "We recognise it may take 3 or 4
years for the RFMO to get fully established so we support urgent interim measures. NZ will strongly promote a process to
