Cyprus Crops Up On Turkish PM's Visit
Audio In Turkish & English Of Press Conference
Today the Prime Minister Helen Clark held a joint press conference with her Turkish counterpart, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan. A large Turkish media contingent seemed to want to traverse the vexed subject of divided Cyprus. Outside on the parliamentary forecourt a small but vocal contingent drawn from Wellington's Greek community also had Turkey on their minds. Sadly, neither side of the Turkish/Greek divide was able to engage in a robust and meaningful discussion due to security barriers.
The Turkish Prime Minister did however have some very nice things to say about the Turkish New Zealand relationship and the irony of how that relationship began somewhat badly on the killing fields of Anzac Cove but had since blossomed.
