Peters Gives US Ambassador Good Kiwi Welcome

Today, high among the upper levels of Bowen House New Zealand's new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Winston Peters, set
about warming up relations with the latest American Ambassador to New Zealand, William McCormick.
Yesterday Mr McCormick experienced a rather less courteous first glimpse of New Zealand. A number of peace activists,
many of whom were obviously inspired by both the fashion and verbal excesses of late 1970s punk rock, gave Mr McCormick
a less than hospitable welcome to Godzone. Fortunately, for those noble souls in the press gallery that had remained in
Wellington on the day of Rod Donald's funeral there was no Crass T Shirts and offensive signage to be found in the New
Zealand First caucus room.
As a quality portrait of a young looking Queen Elizabeth II beamed down benignly the Ambassador and Mr Peters chatted
convivially. Mr Peters was pleased to point out some top quality architectural delights to Mr McCormick as they posed
for a number of photos. Due to the exceedingly quick photo opportunity Scoop was unable to get a picture of Mr Peter's
broadly flashing smile. However many eye-witnesses were able to verify a veritable surfeit of enamel flaunting smiles
were on display.
