Cop Watchers Set To Spy On Police
Scoop Report: The Police commissioner plans to set up a covert operation that would spy on officers and subject them to random drug
tests in a bid to restore public confidence.
The move titled “Operation Integrity” follows today’s Wellington High Court sentencing of a group of former officers on
pack-rape charges, and earlier reports of officers accessing pornography from Police computers.
New Zealand Police also faced nationwide criticism for its 111 emergency system having failed victims in need of urgent
help.
The Police commissioner’s office stated today that a review of police ethics would also factor in the operation.
Operation Integrity will implement random drug testing for staff, conduct covert surveillance, will promote alcohol
guidelines for rural police and will DNA test all recruits.
The operation will be headed by Tasman district commander, Superintendent Grant O'Fee.
