Operation Waikowhai: Police Call In Criminal Profiler Experts
- Members of the Police Criminal Profiling team will today assist the homicide team investigating the death of 22
year-old Mt Roskill resident, Katrina Jefferies. Miss Jefferies' body was found in Waikowhai Park at about 8.20am on
Tuesday morning and the officer in charge of the homicide inquiry, Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley said the
profiling experts were being consulted to see what they could add to the investigation. He said it was important to keep
all options open when dealing with a "whodunnit" type of investigation. Image by Jason Dorday. See... Homicide investigation consulting with experts [1]

Otago University Research Shows Junk Food Adverts Rife Around Schools

around secondary schools and may be contributing to New Zealand’s obesity epidemic, according to a preliminary study…

Supercomputer Weather: Hurricane Emily Heads For Crawford
- Hurricane Emily, which has now reached Category 3 intensity making her the second official "major hurricane" of the
2005 season - and which is forecast to continue to intensifying to at least Category 4 status - may now to be headed for
a Texas Coast landfall, directly through the Texas offshore oil fields. According to the latest long range computer
forecast from the NOAA GFS mode Emily will come ashore in the United States midway between Freeport and Corpus Christi
on July 20th. See... Supercomputer Weather: Hurricane Emily Texas Bound [1]
Scoop Report: Romania Shaken By Flood Disaster And Agricultural Losses
- Contacts in Romania say 11300 homes have been destroyed by flood-waters, and 70,000 animals have perished. Worst hit
is Romania’s south east region where much of the nation’s agricultural heart lies. Concerns exist for what this means
for the nation’s future wellbeing. Romania’s Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu has asked for international help including
food-aid to help those devastated by the flood. See... Romania Faces More Rain After Floods Strike Nation [1]
UN Chief Seeks Expansion Of Security Council
- Pressing ahead with his proposal to enlarge the United Nations Security Council, which has primary responsibility for
the maintenance of global peace and security, Secretary-General Kofi Annan has said the 15-member body is not
sufficiently democratic or representative of the world organization’s vastly increased membership. “I think we all have
to admit that the Council can be more democratic and more representative,” Mr. Annan told reporters yesterday of the
body whose membership total has remained unchanged since 1965, when the UN itself had only a fraction of its current 191
member states. “There is a democracy deficit in the UN governance that has to be corrected.” See... Annan Presses for Enlarged Security Council [1]

SCOOP COLUMNS------------
Jason Leopold On The Imminent Fall Of Bush's Brain
- Looks like Karl Rove did break the law, the same federal law that got Martha Stewart sentenced to six months in
prison. It now appears that Rove, President Bush’s chief of staff, may have lied to the FBI in October 2003—a federal
crime—when he was questioned by federal agents investigating who was responsible for leaking information about a covert
CIA operative to the media. See... Report Shows Rove May Have Lied to FBI, A Felony [1] MORE: Harvey Wasserman - Will Traitor Rove Follow Nixon's Fatal Footsteps? [2] Greg Palast - : Mr. Rove And The Access Of Evil [3]
Lyndon Hood's Guide To Election Lexicography

of catch-all buzzwords and empty political rhetoric, and that even though actual campaigning hasn't started yet? See... Lyndon Hood: An Election-Year Glossary [1] . ALSO: This week on Fighting Talk: a guest post from London, ruminations on national days and jailed journalists from Hamish,

Yasser Abu Moailek's Letter From Palestine
- Palestinians have generally considered that talk of natural gas or similar minerals being found under the Gaza Strip
was only for dreamers. However, a recent discovery of a large field of natural gas has gripped the imaginations of many
Gazans. See... Good Gas Is Gaza's New Treasure [1]
Russell Brown: Out Of The Mouths Of…
- My 10 year-old hears a lot more than he usually lets on. Earlier this week, we were watching yet another TV item on
the Zimbabwe cricket tour, and he piped up: "why can't the government just get on with it and intervene?" He said that,
from the way ... See... Public Address 15/07/05 - Not Just Cricket [1]
Suzan Mazur Explores The Mormon/Mason/ Diebold Nexus
- Diebold, the Ohio computer election systems manufacturer, remains under a cloud regarding irregularities in its
tabulation of the 2004 US presidential vote, which led to the reinstalling of George W. Bush. So it may be productive to
explore what appears to be a significant Diebold-Mormon link, as well as observe how the Mormons are jockeying for a
major political role in America. See... Suzan Mazur: Diebold & The Mormon Mason Handshake [1]
Guest Opinion: Harry Potter vs The Warjocks
- Harry awoke from a sound sleep, rubbed his eyes, and wondered if his dream was only a nightmare. He dreamt that, in a
world of witches, warlocks and spells, a dark spell had been cast on two mighty nations. The people of America and
England adored diversion, fast food filled with toxins, children's books and childish movies, cosmetic makeovers,
brutish sports, mindless millionaires and vacuous celebrities. See... Harry Potter And the Princes of Darkness [1]

Peters Launches Offensive On Right Flank And Releases Brash Letter
- A concerned constituent passed on a most disturbing letter from the so-called leader of the opposition basically
trying to threaten the Grey Power executive. (Read out Brash complaint and Grey Power reply - 1st letter from Brash 21
June; 2nd letter from Grey Power 28 June). This is a most troubling development in the way some conduct their politics
in this country. For example, over the last four months, whenever I have campaigned at Grey Power meetings, the National
party has seen fit to bombard vehicles outside the meetings with their paraphernalia, including parking their
candidates’ vehicles, signatured, in the carpark. See... Peters: The Super Rip-Off Continues [1] ALSO: Scoop Transcript - Dr Brash Letter to Grey Power [2] NZ Govt - Brash blunder shows pressure taking toll [3]
